A two vehicle accident Monday morning (July 12) near the Skip-Away Campground in Clermont, put one person in the hospital.

It happened shortly after 7am on Highway 18, at the entrance to the campground.

A 17 year old boy was leaving a private driveway onto Highway 18 in a truck, to make a left turn. The other driver, 32 year old Luis Rosas of Cedar Rapids, was driving a car eastbound, and took evasive action, to avoid an accident.

The car collided with the driver's side of the truck.

Both of the drivers were treated at the scene; a passenger in Rosas' car, 27 year old Rodrigo Marinex of Cedar Rapids, was taken by ambulance to Palmer Hospital in West Union, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The car, a 2008 BMW, was totaled, while the 2009 Ford truck sustained $5,000 damage.

Rosas was charged with No Valid Driver's License and No Proof of Insurance-Accident.
The accident was investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff, with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol, Clermont Fire, and Clermont Ambulance.
