The Oelwein Community School district has received some good news:

At Monday night's regular board meeting, it was revealed that the Iowa Assessment results came back last week, and Oelwein students are doing better.

The proficiency level for this year's juniors in reading was 80%, science at 79%, and math at 83%. Math improved by 4%, while reading and science remained the same.

In other positive news, Oelwein's graduation rate was 92%, compared to the state average of 90%.

The dropout rate was 1%, or 4 students, compared to the average Iowa dropout rate of 2.70%; it was noted that this is Oelwein's lowest dropout rate in many years.

The Oelwein school board was also informed that the school's FFA program will be recognized next week at the state conference in Des Moines, as the top program in the state of Iowa. This is the 4th time in 6 years that the Oelwein FFA program has been named Iowa's best.
