As reported by the Waterloo Courier, Downtown Waterloo is getting a new addition to its incredible restaurant scene. In May, Ground Round IOC, LLC announced a new concept for a restaurant that would open in Waterloo. It will be the very first of its kind. The plans are for this chain to hopefully expand to other spots across the country, according to Restaurant News.

Northeastern Iowa is now home to the premier location of GR Kitchen & Taps. It is located in the Best Western Residency at 205 West 4th Street in Downtown Waterloo. Also, it will be owned and operated by FNO, LLC according to officials.

Restaurant officials also say that this restaurant will have a strong focus on local craft beer. It will have more than its sister eatery the Ground Rounds. They will offer 19 regional craft beers as well as 1919 Root Beer. Other items on this restaurant's menu will include salads, plant-based food items, and burgers, all fare you'd typically enjoy in this type of restaurant.

In a statement from the company's President Tom Mackey, he expressed,

“We knew the first site must be a high profile, high energy place that is filled with exciting and fun people. We found that right here at the Best Western Executive Residency in Waterloo, Iowa! I see hotel restaurants as a profit center, not a break-even or lose money compliment for the hotel."

Restaurant workers welcomed customers in for the grand opening on Tuesday, July 27th. As reported by the Waterloo Courier,  a Ground Round restaurant was last in Waterloo approximately 13 years ago.
