Iowa Radio Show Host Just Found the Best Poutine in Iowa! [PHOTO]
My wife, my sister-in-law, and I stumbled upon what is quite possibly one of the best poutines you'll find in Iowa.
Tons of American restaurants have jumped onto the poutine bandwagon, which is traditionally a Canadian dish. If you're a fan of french fries, cheese curds, gravy, and in this instance, pulled pork, I've found the perfect concoction for you. Depending on if you're sharing the meal or not...it's extremely filling so you may need to loosen the belt buckle afterwards or make sure you grab a box for leftovers.
What is Poutine?
According to Britannica, Poutine emerged in rural Quebec snack bars in the 1950s and became popular across Canada in the 1990s. The exact origin of the dish is somewhat uncertain but most Poutine fans associate the origins of the meal with Canada.

"Poutine may be found everywhere from fine dining menus at top restaurants to fast-food chains. It has become a symbol of Québécois and Canadian cuisine and culture."
Quinton's Bar and Deli Iowa
Quinton's Bar and Deli has four Iowa locations. There's one in Iowa City, Coralville, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids. The Iowa City location has the best poutine I've tried in my entire life. I have poutines at various state fairs, restaurants, and food trucks, this one is my new favorite.
I'm not sure if the stars aligned that day, I was really hungry, or the cook was just having an excellent day, but if you're looking for an all-time best poutine, check out Quitnon's.
My sister-in-law is a recent graduate from the University of Iowa, shoutout to Piper, and she needed help moving a mattress to her new apartment yesterday (July 25). My wife and I made a trip down to Iowa City to help and we decided to grab some food afterwards. By happenstance, we walked into a bar/restaurant that was close to her new apartment, and thank goodness my wife always likes to order an appetizer.
The three of us shared this french fry, cheese curd, gravy, and pulled pork plate and we all could've been done eating when it was gone. It was so filling but none of us could stop shoveling food onto our forks. Between the three of us, this was gone in about 10 minutes.
Of course, none of us were able to finish our actual entrees, and all three of us needed a box for our leftovers. We didn't care, the poutine we shared stole the show.
If you can stop at any of the 4 Iowa Quinton locations, check their version of Poutine. I left the restaurant and immediately told my wife and sister-in-law "I'll have to write about this tomorrow at work. It's too good."
Speaking of Iowa restaurants to check out, here are some new restaurants that opened in eastern Iowa in 2024!
