Iowa’s July Might’ve Been Cooler Than You Realize
I hate to be bearer of bad news but before we could even blink, we're almost to the month of August. Maybe parents with kids on summer vacation think these past 2 months have slowly crawled by but I already feel like I hardly remember June!
Students are have around 1 month left of summer vacation before the school supplies is loaded into their backpacks, the school buses are picking them up at their bus stops, and they enter another year of education. I'm someone who doesn't have a 3 month vacation during the summer and it's kind of hard for me to believe we're almost 2/3rds done with summer.
Sure we can have nice days in May and September can still be warm but we normally associate June, July, and August as "summer" in the Midwest. We've seen our fair share of warm weather this summer in Iowa but it might not be as warm as you'd normally think.
July of 2024
July is normally the hottest month for the year in Iowa but it turns out that July of 2024 has been relatively cooler than normal in eastern Iowa. KCRG shared this photo on their Facebook Page and as of July 21st, we've only had 6 days where the temperature was warmer than normal in Cedar Rapids/Eastern Iowa.
This photo was shared on July 22nd, so it's possible there were a few days this week that have been warmer than normal but generally, we've had a cooler July this year.
Now the month of June...that's a different story in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like June of 2024, felt more like July normally does, and July has felt more like June normally does.
If you've thought July was hot this year, it turns out that temperature wise, it's been pretty comfortable from what we're used to.
By Saturday, July 27, we will start to warm up and feel some warmer temperatures in Iowa, according to KCRG. Saturday, eastern Iowa should reach a high of 86 degrees, which is plenty warm. It will be interesting to see what happens in August. Will we see a continue trend of "cooler than normal" temperatures or will eastern Iowa heat back up?
