An Oelwein man has been arrested after Fayette County Sheriff’s officials say he caused willful injury to a child. According to the report, which the Sheriff's office shared on Facebook, 26 year old Jacob Smith of Arlington was arrested for Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury on March 5th. He was taken to the Fayette County Jail and held on a $15,000 bond.

According to the report from KCRG,  Smith admitted to officers that on the evening of January 31 and in the morning on February 1, he dropped the infant on a futon, and then punched him in the head with a closed fist. Officials said that as a result, the child suffered skull and rib fractures, retinal hemorrhages and multiple bruises.
