The past few years has been a golden age for the superhero film genre. Marvel created one of the greatest extended cinematic universes in genre history, and is continuing to make it even bigger each year with releases multiple television shows and films.

One of those countless characters actually has some Iowan roots.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe hit a bit of a lag in 2020. With no new releases, and most productions hitting a bit of a halt amidst the pandemic, superheroes were put on hold for a short time.

But 2021 saw Marvel swing back in full force. 

First we saw the release of the awards show darling WandaVision. The episodes followed two of the lesser known characters from the Avengers franchise on a cathartic journey full of fun nods to classic television shows like Bewitched and Modern Family as well as some epic action sequences.

Following the success of this show, Disney + released The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki Black Widow, What If...?, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, AND Hawkeye. ALL IN ONE YEAR.

The later of which has ties to the Hawkeye State.

Yes, Hawkeye is from the Hawkeye State.

Clint Barton aka Hawkeye is from the Cedar Valley. Portrayed by Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye spends his childhood working in his father's butcher shop in the town of Waverly. His parents end up dieing in a tragic car accident which caused him to spend some time in an orphanage.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character is considered one of the original Avengers. He made his debut in the original film Avengers in 2012. Barton has appeared in five of the superhero flicks over the past decade.

The show Hawkeye is currently streaming on Disney +.

Children of the Corn House Is In Iowa

One of the most terrifying movies of the 20th century was shot right here in the Hawkeye State. The 1984 film 'Children of the Corn' based off of Stephen King's novel of the same name had several shooting locations in Hornick. One of them was Job and Sarah's house.
