Meet the Black Hawk County Snowplows With the Best Names This Winter
Black Hawk County snowplows are rolling into winter with some brand-new personality!
After a snowy start to the season, and the likelihood we'll be seeing our friendly plow and plow drivers for months to come, it's time to have a little tongue-in-cheek fun this winter!
Black Hawk County Wants YOU to Name a Plow
The Black Hawk County Road Department has announced the winners of its second annual "Name a BHC Snowplow" contest, and more than 200 local submissions helped make it happen.

After internal voting narrowed the list to 15 finalists, the public cast votes earlier this month to decide the final three names.

The winning snowplow names are Truck Norris, submitted by Robert Craft of Waterloo; Plow Patrol, submitted by Madison Gardner of Waverly; and Plowabunga, submitted by Ramona Roskop of Cedar Rapids.
What the Winner of the Snowplow Naming Contest Receives
Each winner will receive an “I Named a BHC Snowplow” T-shirt and their choice of prizes, including VIP tickets to the Hartman Reserve Maple Syrup Festival or overnight stays in county park cabins.
The newly named snowplows will be officially unveiled during a ceremony in January, with winners and members of the media invited to attend.
County Officials Urge Safety This Winter
County officials also used the announcement as a reminder to drivers, noting the region has already seen a snowy start to winter.
Motorists are urged to slow down around snowplows, give them plenty of space, assume drivers may not see surrounding vehicles, and never pass a plow on the right.
