Waterloo Woman Shocked By Significantly Higher Lottery Prize
Another day, another Waterloo woman taking home a huge lottery prize.
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to look over your lottery ticket a second, third, or even a fourth time. A woman from Waterloo couldn't believe her luck when she went to go redeem her tiny prize of $3 earlier this month only to find out she would be taking home just a bit more money.
Jamie Tobar initially thought the ticket that she had yielded a measly $3. She said that she forgot to take into account the bonus letters on her Bonus Crossword scratch ticket, according to Iowa Lottery officials.
"I scanned it and didn't believe it, so I just kept scanning it," Tobar explained.
Obviously her husband didn't believe her at first, but after taking a look at the numbers and checking the Iowa Lottery app himself, he finally believed that she won big.
Add just a few zeros to her initial $3 prize and you'll get her real reward...
$30,000!
“I thought the app was glitching on me, but it was real,” she said.
Tobar purchased the winning ticket at the self-service kiosk at Hy-Vee, 2834 Ansborough Avenue in Waterloo.
Tobar and her husband plan to use the $30,000 in a very practical way. The couple's game plan is to use the prize money to pay off some of their bills and on their three children.
