Cedar Falls is a pretty safe city. It's a nice place to live -- plenty of things to do, while still being a safe place for people of all ages. Other than the occasional drunk college student doing something stupid, not much happens.

In what was a bit of a surprise, a house was burgled on West 10th Street yesterday.

And no, it wasn't a sneak-in-through-an-open-window-and-take-things-quietly type of burglary. According to KWWL, "The homeowner says they heard the front door being kicked down and saw the suspect Shane Spooner of Waterloo stealing items."

The owner of the home added that "the suspect fled the home in a white truck with a blue tarp in the back. Officers soon found the truck and tried to stop the suspect, but drove off."

Not only did Spooner continue to drive off, but he also JUMPED FROM THE TRUCK and tried to FLEE ON FOOT.

Officers ultimately tracked down their suspect and arrested him without further issues. KWWL added that he "was charged with Burglary in 2nd and 3rd Degrees, Eluding and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree."

According to IowaCrimeLawyer.com, "Burglary in the second degree is a class C felony and punishable by up to 10 years and a fine of not more than $13,660. ... For the D felony attempted burglary, a person could serve up to five years in prison."

If Spooner is convicted of eluding police officers and is handed a serious misdemeanor he will face "up to 12 months in jail, and a fine between $315 and $1,875," per McCarthyHamrock.com.

In regards to the criminal mischief charge, IowaCrimeLawyer adds that it "is a serious misdemeanor and is punishable by up to one year in prison and a $2,560 fine plus 15% surcharge and $100 court costs. It is defined as causing damage of more than $300 but less than $750."

Spooner was arrested in 2013 after a child he was supposed to be babysitting was found wandering outside by itself in Evansdale.
