A New Hampton man is dead after a one-vehicle accident in Chickasaw County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 70-year-old Steven Demaray was killed when the southbound vehicle he was driving left U.S. Highway 63, entered the median, and slammed head-on into a concrete overpass support pier. Demaray was the only occupant of the vehicle, authorities said.

The Iowa State Patrol confirmed that Demaray he later died at the hospital, where he was taken for treatment.

The crash happened Monday around 9 AM at the interchange with U.S. Highway 18 and Iowa Highway 346 south of New Hampton.

Semi driver hurt in Bremer County accident

Meanwhile, a semi driver was air-lifted to a hospital following an accident on Iowa Highway 3 near Readlyn in Bremer County.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the injured man as 70-year-old Richard Kane of Denver. Authorities say the semi that Kane was driving struck a chisel, which crossed the center line on the pavement. The chisel was being pulled by an on-coming pick-up truck.

The Iowa State Patrol did not release the extent of Kane’s injuries. He was air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The accident, which happened Monday around 5 PM, remains under investigation.
