First things first, yes this is an actual study I found on mythical lizards with wings. Someone actually paid money for this study. Second, did you know there is a bird called the Great Eared Nightjar and they are sometimes referred to as a "dragon bird" because they look like baby dragons? According to Earthly Missions, you can find these birds in Southwest India and Southeast Asia. Look at this cute little guy.

As the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon ends the first season, Dragons have never been more popular than they are now. While dragons might not be exactly real, Shane Co wanted to play a little game of "what if..."

Which city in Iowa would attract the most dragons? There are a few key points the Shane Co article makes on what a dragon would look for in a city. Two of those key points we can focus on in Iowa would be "Dragons would favor areas of high elevation and dragons wouldn’t want to work too hard when dinner time comes around."

From my extremely limited knowledge of dragons...I'm going to go ahead and say this checks out. Iowa might not have tons of crazy elevation changes but what does Iowa have a ton of? Pigs and Cows. Easy meals for a dragon to fill up on whenever they feel hungry.

According to Shane Co, most dragons would flock to the western part of the United States but there is 1 city in Iowa that makes the Top 100.

Des Moines strikes again! It seems like they get all of the good stuff. In this case maybe not good stuff? It would depend on how you look at it I suppose. While Des Moines might not have a lot of change in elevation, like Dubuque for instance, the city does have some of the tallest buildings in the state of Iowa. The 801 Grand would make the perfect perch for a family of dragons.

While it's not shocking the capital city of Iowa finds itself on another "best cities in America for..." list, I do find it pretty funny there was an actual study on dragons and where they would live in the United States. The top 5 best cities in the U.S to be a Dragon are

  • 5. Honolulu Hawaii
  • 4. Boise Idaho
  • 3. Provo Utah
  • 2. Las Vegas Nevada
  • 1. Albuquerque New Mexico

The real question is, if you could have a pet dragon, would you?
