Iowa’s Newest Millionaire Couldn’t Be More Deserving
A new millionaire has been added to the list in Iowa and what makes this even crazier is that he was so close to being added to the billionaire club.
Have you ever had a conversation with someone about what you'd do with the money if you ever won the Powerball? Most people talk about paying off debts, going on dream vacations, buying houses, and sharing with others. I'm kind of curious about what Trent Baker will want to do with his new riches.
Whenever someone wins a bunch of money, I always hope it goes to someone who really deserves it and thankfully, Iowa's newest millionaire is someone who does. Trent Baker is a 37-year-old firefighter from Newton, Iowa.
Congratulations to this hero!
Iowa's Newest Millionaire
Trent Baker is one of seven, one-million-dollar winners from the previous Powerball drawing. Last Saturday, the Powerball was up to 1.3 billion dollars. Trent matched 5 numbers and was only 1 number off from winning the billion! I'm sure the 1 million dollars is a pretty good consolation prize.
One can only imagine the excitement and panic that sets in when you realize you've won big with the Powerball. Trent was getting ready for work early on Sunday morning when he realized his life would change forever.
According to the KCCI, he said
"I saw a 1 and a bunch of zeroes and I wasn't quite sure what it was right away, if it was a million, if it was a billion. At that moment, it was panic mode. I called my mom and was like, 'I just won the lottery!' And she was like, 'No you didn't.'I could tell she didn't believe me. And I was like, 'I wouldn't call you at 6:45 in the morning if I didn't win the lottery!"
Trent did make it to work on time that Sunday as he was excited to share the news with the fire station. After working a few hours there was a slight issue with Trent trying to complete his work shift that day. He was worried that his scattered and racing thoughts could lead him to make some kind of error and he decided to take the rest of the day off. He used that time to research what he should do next.
As far as Trent's plans for the money, he spoke to a financial planner and doesn't want to squander his opportunity.
"I'm 17 years away from retirement. This could help impact my retirement even more. I don't want to squander it and have to try to work harder for it all over again. That was kind of my motivation behind it: This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, let's make it last as much as possible."
Iowa's newest millionaire is also one of Iowa's heroes. Congratulations Trent!
