How Many More Iowa CBD Stores Will Be Affected By New THC Bill?
A new law regarding the amount of THC allowed in certain products will go into effect in Iowa, beginning July 1st.
While concerns from Governor Reynolds have been made about this bill, she did sign it last Friday (May 17), which has already affected at least 1 Iowa CBD Store. This could potentially affect many more throughout the state of Iowa as at least one CBD store owner is already trying to find ways to stay afloat.
Indianola, Iowa, will see one less CBD store, owned by Ashley Powell. CBD American Shaman of Indianola will be closing. Ashley currently owns 2 other stores located in Altoona and West Des Moines that she may have no choice but to eventually shut down. It appears that Ashley is not going down without a fight.
New THC Limit Coming to Iowa
According to KCCI, the new bill has put a cap on the amount of THC that is allowed in CBD products. "This bill will limit THC products to not exceed 10 milligrams per container and limit of 4 milligrams per serving." This new law will also prevent anyone under the age of 21 from buying any products containing THC.
This new limit will cost Ashley Powell close to 80% of her sales revenue and she isn't sure how her other CBD stores will be able to remain open. She's hoping that she can stock up on THC-infused drinks to stay afloat. She's also hoping to find loopholes that will help her replace her current items that around 9,000 people, who visit her three stores currently buy.
Governor Reynolds has concerns about the bill but ultimately wants to protect minors. She told KCCI
"I have concerns about this bill and have heard from individuals and groups on both sides of the issue," said Governor Reynolds. "Ultimately, I am signing it into law to protect minors from dangerous and intoxicating products. At the same time, we've taken steps to ensure that children who are resistant to medications and suffer from seizures and other medical conditions continue to have access to consumable hemp alternatives for relief."
Could this potentially be one of the first dominos to fall for CBD stores in Iowa? This may not be the only Iowa CBD store we hear about going through tough times beginning July 1st.
