Should Halloween 2024 be Postponed this Year in Wisconsin?

Halloween is one of those holidays that is just as fun for adults as it is for kids.

This year, people are estimated to spend approximately $11.6 billion, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation.

Just about half of adults in Wisconsin participate in some sort of Halloween festivity every year.

Even if you do plan on having some spooky fun, you'll have to control yourself on October 31st this year.

Unfortunately, Halloween falls on a Thursday this time around, so everyone will have to get back to work or school the next day.

A few years ago, there was a movement to change the actual date that Halloween is celebrated. This petition started by the  Halloween and Costume Association gained traction back in 2018 and has 158,132 signatures as of October 2024.

The goal of this petition is to shift the day that all of the haunted happenings take place to the last Saturday in October.

One of the main reasons for the change is safety.

According to reports, when Halloween is on a weeknight the amount of fatal crashes involving children increased by approximately 83%. Also, pedestrian involved crashes increase by 55%.

If trick or treating were to take place on Saturday then the holiday festivities could begin in the daylight hours.
