Our recent spate of winter weather has kept the Iowa State Patrol busy.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports that Patrol Communication Centers across the state fielded hundreds of calls during this past weekend's major snowstorm.

From Saturday through Tuesday, the Iowa State Patrol responded to 273 crashes and 872 calls for motorist assists.

The DPS notes that the total number of emergency calls received at the centers is most likely higher, because numerous calls on any particular event may not have been logged due to the extreme high volume of calls and radio traffic over those 72 hours.
