On Tuesday, April 1st, news broke of plans for Whirlpool in Amana to lay off hundreds of employees. According to reports, approximately 650 workers will be laid off effective June 1st, 2025.

Less than 24 hours after this devastating news was uncovered, word has come out that another company will be closing and laying off their work force.
How the Iowa WARN Act Affects These Layoffs
This news came after the layoffs were reported to the Iowa Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).
The Iowa WARN Act requires that any and all employers of more than a hundred employees give 60 days' written notice when there is a mass layoff.
Sodexo in Decorah Will Shut Down Operations
On Wednesday, April 2nd it was reported that Sodexo in Decorah will be closing this summer. The official closure and layoff date is set for June 30th.
130 workers at this location will be laid off due to this closure.
It is located at 700 College Drive, Sodexo works closely with Luther College.
