What You Don’t Know About The 12 Days Of Christmas
Today is officially the start of the 12 days of Christmas! Well, sort of. We all know the song about the 12 days but there are actually a few things about the myth and song that you may not actually know. For example, the 12 days usually start on December 13th and end on Christmas. However, according to some legends and religion, the 12 days were actually being celebrated starting on Christmas for 2 weeks after spreading merriment into the new year.
Strange huh? Well not only are we celebrating the 12 days at the wrong time, but we are also singing the wrong thing during the 4th day of Christmas! Usually when we all sing the carol, we hear that on the 4th day of Christmas there were “4 calling birds.” This is not correct. In reality, the song was originally, “4 colly birds.” With “colly” meaning “grimy or sooty,” I understand why that one got changed throughout the years, I mean who wants grimy birds for Christmas?
By the way, we have all been gypped in the gifts department for the 12 days. According to the song, her true love gives her a new gift every day before Christmas resulting in 12 gifts. However, if you think about the amount of times items in the song are being repeated by the time you get to the end of the song you would have actually received 364 gifts! Yeah, so all of us who got presents during the 12 days are missing out on some.
Apparently, we do not know much about the 12 days of Christmas except that it is a song about receiving gifts for Christmas but know that you know a little more make sure to go get those 364 presents! If you want to know more about this check out the article below.
