Pickup Rear-Ends a Semi Driven by a Waterloo Man
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating an accident, in which a semi driven by a Waterloo man, was rear-ended by a pickup, killing the pickup driver.
The accident happened Wednesday (May 26) shortly after 11am, on Interstate 80 at the 35 mile marker, near Johnston.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a pickup driven by 35 year old Callie Derflinger of Johnston, and a semi driven by 56 year old Stanley Rottinghaus of Waterloo, were both traveling west on the interstate, and had just entered a 55 mph construction zone. The semi is owned by Cedar Valley Corp. in Waterloo.
For an unknown reason, the pickup rear-ended the semi.
Derflinger was taken to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Rottinghaus was apparently not injured. The accident remains under investigation
