Waterloo Public High Schools Resuming In-Person Learning
After months of online learning, some Waterloo students will soon be returning to the classrooms.
East and West High Schools are resuming daily, in-person instruction on Feb. 1, Waterloo District officials announced Friday morning. In a press release, they said data shows that there is limited-to-no spread of COVID-19 occurring in any of the district's buildings.
District officials shared the following message with the students' families:
"We are grateful for the support and patience from our students and families during this difficult time. We know learning improves when students are in school full-time, so over the past few months, we have worked collaboratively on a plan that allows students to transition away from the A/B hybrid schedule and safely resume full-time, in-person classes. Bringing our students back full-time with continued safety precautions will allow students to better engage with their instructors and improve learning."
In the press release, local education leaders said working with health officials and gathering information from students, parents, and staff has provided guidance for steps the district is taking to move forward.
According to the district, students who are enrolled in remote instruction may continue with virtual learning.
Both schools have been using a hybrid schedule since classes began in the fall, with different groups of students going to the buildings every other day.
Students were divided into groups and have been in the buildings every other day, with
