Huge Retailer Plans To Hire 50,000 Employees
One of the biggest companies in the country has plans to have mass hiring over the next few months.
The United States has been experiencing a major labor shortage over the past few months.
As of September of last year, there were 10 million job openings and approximately 8 million people unemployed, according to an article from the Washington Post. These may seem like scary numbers, but it looks like some of these rates are going down, at least according to some reports.
In a recent announcement, America's largest private employer will be hiring thousands of new workers within the next few months.
The retail giant Walmart already has approximately 2 million employees, according to some reports.
Walmart officials said in a press release, that the super store plans to gain more than 50,000 new employees by the end of April. Many of these roles will be for in-store jobs, but a few white collar jobs are also up for grabs.
Many of these open positions include personal shoppers and delivery drivers. The company is planning to push their digital and delivery services in the next few quarters.
The announcement was made on Wednesday and puts Walmart into a tight labor market race. Walmart's starting pay for employees is $12 an hour, which is three dollars shorter than competitors like Target.
According to a report from KWWL, in some markets and jobs, that starting number is higher. Some employees and positions at the company can make anywhere between $16.40 to $30 an hour.
According to CNBC, the company plans to hire approximately;
5,000 engineers
3,000 delivery drivers
There are currently more than a thousand job openings with the company in the state of Iowa along. For more information or to check out all of the job listings, check out the company's website here.
