Authorities are trying to determine if alcohol was involved in a UTV accident last night that sent one person to the hospital.


The Linn County Sheriff received a report at about 6:45pm Thursday (June 24), of an accident on Wagner Road, south of Prairieburg.

Responding emergency personnel determined that the driver of a 2020 Polaris Ranger side-by-side Utility Terrain Vehicle, lost control of the UTV, which rolled onto it's side, landing on the driver.

The driver was injured; he was identified as 38 year old Charles Ratcliff of rural Central City. A passenger, 39 year old Robert Walters of rural Central City, was not hurt. The seatbelts in the vehicle were not used.

According to the Linn County Sheriff, Ratcliff was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A condition report was not available.

Open containers of alcohol were found at the scene of the accident. Authorities are now investigating if Operating While Intoxicated charges should be filed.
