Three Suspects Facing Charges Linked To Recent Waterloo Shootings

An investigation into the fatal shooting of a Waterloo man last week has resulted in the arrest of three people.

Authorities have charged 24-year-old Ana Berinobis-McLemore and 29-year-old Ralpheal Williams with first-degree robbery in connection with incident.

According to police, two men wearing masks attempted to take items from Vincent Hemenway while he and other people were inside his garage late Saturday night. When Hemenway resisted, one of the men drew a weapon and fired several shots at the group, officials said. The 49-year-old Hemenway was struck with a bullet and later died at a local hospital. This week, the Iowa State Medical Examiner ruled Hemenway's death a homicide.

Investigators recovered a firearm and cell phone they believe were associated with Hemenway's shooting, police said.

According to a press release, Williams was taken into custody Sunday on unrelated arrest warrants. He was in the Black Hawk County Jail Wednesday when authorities filed the robbery charges against him in connection with Hemenway's death.

Berinobis-McLemore was taken into custody on the robbery charges Tuesday.

Police said, while investigating Hemenway’s death, they developed information that led to the arrest of a third person on charges connected to two other recent shootings in Waterloo.

Authorities arrested 31-year-old Robert Williams, Jr., for his alleged involvement in the July 31 shooting of Tony Campbell in the 900 block of West Sixth Street. Williams was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder, felony possession of a firearm and willful.

Police confirmed that Robert Williams, Jr., was also charged with felony possession of a firearm and intimidation with a weapon for his involvement in an Aug. 2 shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Argyle Street.
