Fatal UTV Crash in Black Hawk County Claims Life of Cedar Falls Man

One man is dead after a fatal crash in Black Hawk County earlier this week.

Between 2016 and 2020, there were approximately 101,000 Off Highway Vehicles and ATV injuries occurred that required some sort of emergency department assistance in the United States, according to reports.

In addition, over the course of two years (2016 through 2018) there were 1,566 deaths.

UTV Crash in Black Hawk County

On the afternoon of Monday, September 16th officials confirmed that a 2019 Polaris Ranger and a 2013 Chrysler 200 were involved in a crash in Black Hawk County.

It was reported that Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, MercyOne EMS, Covenant EMS, the Cedar Falls Fire Department and the Waterloo Fire Department all responded to the crash that turned deadly.

This incident took place at the intersection of West Cedar Wapsie Road and North Union Road which is about five miles northwest of Cedar Falls.

Iowa State Patrol officials report that 56-year-old Andrew Eric Clark of Cedar Falls was driving the UTV at approximately 2:20 PM. He apparently failed to yield as he turned left onto W Cedar Wapsie Road and crashed into the Chrysler that was coming in southbound.

Both of these vehicles went into the ditch and the UTV went up in flames, according to reports.

Clark died due to the fatal injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Chrysler was 41-year-old Karl Chauncey Tompkins. Tompkins was injured during the crash.

There is no word about how severe his condition, but he fortunately is alive.
