Sweet Corn Is Back In Cedar Falls

Iowa is corn country. According to reports, Iowa produces more corn than many countries. The Hawkeye State produces three times as much of the crop than Mexico.

Now that it's July, that means it's officially sweet corn season!

It's been a challenging season for these farmers. According to reports, the cold spring that we experienced in Eastern Iowa and some drought, slowed the harvest down a bit. The cold weather back in April played a significant role in the slight delay.

However, things are finally back on track for sweet corn season!

Hesse Sweet Corn, a locally grown, family owned and operated bi-colored announced earlier this week, that they would be back at it selling their shucking good corn. If you're looking for your sweet corn fix in the Cedar Valley, you won't have to go too far.

Hesse's Cedar Falls location is right cross from the McDonald’s on 1st Street.

They will be eventually selling sweet corn in Waverly, but that will come in the very near future. Customers are encouraged to continue to check back on their Facebook page for updates.

Right now, Hesse's is selling corn at $8 for a dozen.

Less than one percent of all corn harvested is sweet corn. That means there's still a whole lot of corn that has yet to be harvested. This corn harvesting season begins in mid-September and lasts until November, according to reports.
