Trash Pickup, Facility Closures, and Holiday Hours in Cedar Falls

'Tis the season! And with the season comes... altered trash and facility schedules!

Cedar Falls has confirmed its hours, pick-up and make-up dates, all of which will be impacted in some way by Christmas and New Year's.

Cedar Falls Holiday Changes

Several Cedar Falls city facilities will adjust their hours in observance of the upcoming holidays.

Holiday Facility Hours

• City Hall – Closed December 24, December 25, and January 1.

• Hearst Center for the Arts – Closed December 24, December 25, and January 1.

• Cedar Falls Public Library – Closed December 24 and 25; closes early at 5 p.m. on December 31; closed January 1.

• Cedar Falls Community Center – Closed December 24, December 25, and January 1.

• Recreation & Fitness Center – Open December 24 and December 31 from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed December 25 and January 1.

• Community Natatorium – Closed December 24, December 25, December 31, and January 1.

• Cedar Falls Tourism – Closed December 24–26 and January 1. The brochure lobby will remain available year-round.

Refuse Collection Adjustments

• Wednesday, December 24 pickup → place cart out by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23.

• Thursday, December 25 pickup → place cart out by 7 a.m. on Friday, December 26.

• Thursday, January 1 pickup → place cart out by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31.

The Transfer Station and Recycling Center will operate normal hours on Friday, December 26.

There will be no large item pickup on December 23, December 26, or December 31 due to double route collection. Service resumes Monday, January 5.

Seasonal Services

• Christmas tree pickup: by appointment only on Mondays, January 5 – February 9, 2026. Schedule by calling 319-273-8629.

• Yard waste pickup: appointment-based on Mondays from December through March 2026. Call 319-273-8629 with questions or to schedule.
