Starmont Student Accused Of Posting Social Media Threat

A 13-year-old Starmont Middle School student is accused of making a threat on social media that caused a two-hour delay for classes Thursday morning.

Fayette County sheriff's officials said they took a gun and electronics from the teenager's home after they learned of the potential threat around 7 AM and launched an investigation. According to authorities, several students received a social media post that referenced potential harm to the middle school near Arlington during the noon hour.

Authorities said they were able to quickly identify the 13-year-old as the person who made the threats. Once investigators determined there was no immediate danger to the school, classes went on as scheduled, with a law enforcement presence on the school grounds for the duration of the day.

The incident remains under investigation by sheriff's officials in Fayette and Clayton counties.
