A Waterloo man was injured in a two-vehicle accident that happened when a ladder fell from the back of pick-up truck Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 10 AM on Interstate 380 at mile marker 35 near Center Point.

According to Linn County sheriff's officials, 28-year-old Julio Solis suffered injuries when driver of the pick-up he was riding in swerved to avoid the ladder, which fell into the lane of traffic from another southbound pick-up. Authorities said the driver, 38-year-old Jamie Quinto of Waterloo, lost control of the pick-up while entering the median. The vehicle came to rest on the inside lane of the interstate.

Officials said Solis was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They did not disclose the extent of this injuries, but classified them as non-life-threatening.

Authorities identified the other driver as 60-year-old Mark Mangas of Shellsburg. According to sheriff's officials, Mangas was cited for spilling a load on the interstate.

Horse injured in Fayette County accident

An Oelwein man escaped injury when his vehicle hit a horse Tuesday morning.

Fayette County sheriff's officials said 26-year-old James Fleming totaled his vehicle when he struck the horse, which was in the traveled portion of Iowa Highway 150/Palace Road about two miles north of Oelwein. The accident happened just before 5 AM.

Authorities confirmed the horse sustained minor injuries in the accident and was returned to its owner.
