Police in Chino Valley, Ariz., are expected to file murder charges against 24-year-old Mitchell Mincks, a former Waterloo man who they've described as "a person of interest" in the April 19 disappearance of his girlfriend, 28-year-old Elissa Landry, and her step-father, 45-year-old David "Nick" Batten, both of Chino Valley. Mincks was detained April 28 at a rural Waterloo home on an unrelated warrant alleging that he violated federal probation, and was recently transferred back to Arizona for a hearing.

No charges have been filed in the apparent homicides of Landry and Batten, but Chino Valley police said Friday in a Facebook post that charges against Mincks and anyone who may have assisted him are pending in coordination with the Yavapai County (Ariz.) Attorney’s Office and United States federal prosecutors.

Chino Valley police tentatively identified the bodies found in Evansdale as those of Landry and Batten, but official confirmation is pending medical examiner results. The remains were discovered Friday in Landry's car, which was buried in a one-acre parcel of undeveloped land at the end of Timber Oak Road, a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood surrounded by woods.

Landry and Batten were last seen in the Chino Valley area on April 19. The search for them began two days later when police received a missing persons report.

According to The Daily Courier of Prescott, Ariz., investigators discovered evidence of foul play at Batton's Chino Valley home on April 22. Six days later, Chino Valley police reported that Batton and Landry were both possibly deceased and identified Mincks as "a person of interest" in the case.

In Friday's Facebook post, Chino Valley police said they received information this week that the bodies of Landry and Batten were with Landry's missing vehicle and that the blue Subaru was in Iowa. On Tuesday, they sent investigators on the 1,500-mile trip to Evansdale to assist in the search.

Chino Valley police worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Waterloo Police Department and Evansdale Police Department to dig-up the property on Timber Oak Road, where the bodies and car were buried.
