More Illegal Dumping in Oelwein, with More Charges
An Oelwein woman who was charged with illegal dumping, faces more charges in a similar incident, but in a different part of town.
On Monday (August 2nd), an Oelwein Police Officer out on patrol, discovered that someone left items outside of the recycling bins in the 400 block of Rock Island Road.
An investigation determined that some of the garbage had previously been disposed of illegally, at the city yard waste site on the southwest side of Oelwein, over the weekend.

More of the disposed items were found at another recycling bin in the south city parking lot.
The abandoned property cannot be left for recycling at either location, and may not be left on the ground next to the bins. Some of the items that may not be recycled, had been deposited inside of the recycling bins. And some of those items were incorrectly placed in bins that were marked for recyclable materials, such as plastic, paper, cardboard and more, that would be suitable for recycling. All of the bins are clearly marked.
Following this investigation, 21 year old Makayla Cox of Oelwein was charged with 2 more counts of illegal dumping.
Cox had been contracted to clean out a rental property, and get rid of the items that were left behind by the previous tenant.
She was ordered to appear in court at a later date.
