Missing Hunter Found Dead in Winneshiek County
Winneshiek County authorities are investigating an incident, in which a Minnesota hunter went missing, and was later found dead.
At about 6pm Wednesday (Nov. 11), the Winneshiek County Sheriff received a report of a missing hunter from Austin, Minnesota. Two men from that area came to hunt at Canoe Creek Access Area in Pleasant Township.
The hunter, identified as Maya Htoo, did not return to his designated meeting place, and was reported missing by the other hunter.
Sheriff's deputies and the Decorah Fire Department, searched the area throughout the night. On Thursday morning, several area agencies along with volunteers, assisted in the extensive search.
During the search, Htoo's body was found in a wooded area of the state access area. The cause of death was not released, but is under investigation by the state medical examiner.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff was assisted by the Decorah Fire Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management, and multiple agencies, including area fire, law, and EMS.
