Demolition of the old Lafayette School in Waterloo, IA has begun.  Crews began knocking down the neighborhood eyesore, which has stood empty since 1973, on Tuesday.

Demolition of the old school had previously been approved by the council, and the plan for the new development calls for 14 homes to be built on the site after the demolition is complete.

Back in November, the city council had put a 60 day hold on the residential plan. During that time, they tried to market it for commercial development. There were no offers that were submitted.
