New Metal Detectors

According to KCRG, 39 new metal detectors will be at the entrances around the stadium. Fans are still required to bring clear bags but the bags will no longer be checked by security. All fans have to do is walk through the metal detectors.

The Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director is Marcus Wilson. He believes the metal detectors will not only speed up the process of fans entering the stadium, it will also enhance the safety of Kinnick Stadium. Marcus told KCRG

"I do think this will enhance the safety here at Kinnick Stadium. If the detector does catch a prohibited item, the person will have a more thorough check with a handheld security wand."

While this may be a bit of a learning process that is new to fans this year, ultimately it should make entry to the gates more efficient. Marcus also said it might take a few games to get used to the new process, but it will make a big difference in the long run.

"The first couple of games...it may take some getting used to amongst some of our fans and we’ll work through that. But ultimately I think it will result in a more efficient gate entry process."

If you plan on going to an Iowa Hawkeye game at Kinnick Stadium early in the season, be prepared for a small learning curve while fans and security get used to the new process. By the middle of the season, fans should experience a smooth entry into the stadium.

We're only a few days away from seeing this incredible venue, packed with fans, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
