Jesup Woman’s Lunch Break Turns into a $10,000 Lottery Win
Can you imagine going on your lunch break for work and returning a few thousand dollars richer?
That is exactly what happened to one Eastern Iowa woman earlier this month.
In 2021, people spent $95.6 billion on lottery tickets in the United States with 50% of all Americans admitting to buying at least one lottery ticket every year, according to reports.
Iowans are just a small portion of hopeful people who play the lottery with dreams of winning a life changing amount of money.
One Jesup woman's dream came true after a trip to her local Kwik Star.
Tasha Davies bought a lottery ticket at the gas station at 841 South Street on her way to work. She waited until her lunch break to play the Iowa Lottery's "$100,000 Mega Crossword" scratch game.
According to a report from the Iowa Lottery, scratched the ticket, confirmed her win on the lottery app on her phone, then slipped the ticket back into her lunch bag.
She had just won $10,000 and couldn't even think about finishing up her mid day meal.
"I was sick to my stomach and couldn't finish my lunch," the 56-year-old woman said when she picked up her winnings in Cedar Rapids last week.
Davies kept this news quiet and didn't tell anyone until she showed the ticket to her husband later that day.
"He didn't believe me," Davies said with a laugh. "He had to verify like I was looking at it wrong."
The Jesup woman said that she plans to save her winnings.
Congratulations to Tasha on the lucky ticket!
