An Eastern Iowa couple are jumping for joy this month after winning a massive prize with the Iowa Lottery.

David Cutsforth dropped by the Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh at 2700 University Avenue in Waterloo earlier this month and bought a scratch off ticket, according to a report from the Iowa Lottery.

He bought a ticket from the Iowa Lottery's "Super 7s" scratch game.

What Is the Super 7s Scratch Game?

Super 7s is a $2 scratch game which has fifteen top prizes of $17,777.

And Cutsforth ended up taking home one of those top prizes!

How the Waterloo Couple Reacted to Their Big Win

David and his wife Virginia were so happy when they found out that one half of the couple won $17,777.

"We're both just flabbergasted, we can't believe it," said Virginia Cutsforth.

She went on to tell Iowa Lottery officials that this win "is among the most exciting events in their 55 years of marriage."

How Will They Spend Their Lottery Winnings?

You might be wondering what exactly the couple plan to do with the winnings.

The Cutsforths are planning to make some purchases for their own home, like buying a new furnace and air conditioner. Some of the other winnings will go towards their church.

"The church means a lot to us, and we have a building debt. So it'll help them out a little bit," Cutsforth said.
