Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix Resigns [VIDEO]

Bill Dix has resigned his position as an Iowa State Senator and the chamber's Majority Leader.

"Mister President and Madame Speaker, I resign my position as Iowa State Senator and Majority Leader effective at 2 PM today, March 12, 2018," Dix wrote in a short, but effective letter addressed to Senate President Jack Whitver and Speaker Linda Upmeyer.

Dix gave no further explanation for his immediate resignation. His abrupt departure from the Iowa Senate, however, comes just hours after a video was posted online that appears to show him kissing a female lobbyist at a Des Moines bar.

William "Bill" Dix, is a Republican and a farmer from Shell Rock, Iowa. He represented District 25, which includes Butler, Grundy, Hardin and Story counties.

Dix has been a member of the Iowa General Assembly for about two decades. Initially, he was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1996 and was re-elected in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004. Dix was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2010 and has served as the chamber's Republican leader since November of 2012.
