Located in Waterloo, the Cedar Bend Humane Society has no more kennel space available. The team announced this on their Facebook page on September 11th, 2024.

CBHS officials had to suspend the acceptance of owner surrenders to their shelter. This includes cats and dogs over 30 pounds.

"Unfortunately, we have had an overwhelming number of stray and neglected animals enter our shelter over the last several weeks. We are now full to capacity with dogs and cats, and there are absolutely no additional kennels available."
The plan is for CBHS to try and accommodate strays from Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, and other contracted partners.
However, any animals found outside of Black Hawk County will not be accepted at their facility.

Once more space is made available, the Cedar Bend Humane Society will resume accepting animal surrenders.

What Can I Do to Help?

The easiest way to help the Cedar Bend Humane Society is by doing yourself a favor and finding your furry friend. Officials from the organization are encouraging people to adopt or foster animals at their shelter.

Not only do you end up with a companion, but you'll also be able to free up some extra kennel space.

For more information about fostering and adopting make sure to go to the official Cedar Bend Humane Society website.

The adoption center is open daily from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
