Fayette Sheriff Reports Recent Accidents and Arrests

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has released information on recent traffic accidents and arrests.

On Thursday, Jan. 21, officers arrested 33 year old Michael Walters of Monona for a Probation Violation. Walters was taken to the Fayette County jail where he was held without bond. Postville Police assisted the sheriff.

Also last Thursday, two West Union residents were charged with violations of the Sex Offender Registry. 34 year old Cory Hursey and 24 year old James Thorne, were found to have social media accounts, but failed to report them to the sex offender registry. Both will have to appear in court at a later date.

On Friday at about 4:30pm, the sheriff's office received a 911 hang up call from just outside of Clermont on Highway 18. The investigating officer discovered a domestic assault happened in a vehicle, near Clermont. The victim was later located in Postville. 37 year old Israel Bartlein of Postville was then arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Obstruction of a 911 Device. Postville Police and Allamakee County Sheriff assisted Fayette County authorities.

Saturday at about 5:20pm, the Fayette County Sheriff got a 911 call of a vehicle rollover on Highway 3, near Neon Road, just east of Oelwein. 19 year old Dayanaira Castes of Arlington had lost control of her vehicle due to weather conditions, and rolled the vehicle. No one was hurt, but the 2004 Ford Freestar was totaled.

Late Saturday morning, the sheriff got a 911 call, reporting a vehicle in the ditch, that struck an electrical pole. The accident happened on Highway 18, 2 miles north of Clermont. A pickup driven by 18 year old Aubrey Heller of Cedar Rapids, went out of control, crossed the center line, entered a ditch and crashed into the utility pole, causing it to break. Heller was not injured, but she was cited for Failure to Maintain Control. The 1994 Ford F-150 was totaled.

And last Wednesday, Jan. 20th, the Fayette County Sheriff charged 2 area residents after an investigation of a December 17th accident. A vehicle had entered a ditch on Hornet Road just outside of West Union. Sara Ann Brown was charged with a vehicle title violation when she sold a vehicle, and 36 year old David Gyorko of Elgin was charged with Driving While Suspended, Failure to Have Insurance, Failure to Maintain Control, and No Vehicle Registration. Both will appear in court at a later date.
