“We had some situations that we had to put away,” said head coach Doug Schwab. “We also had a lot of situations where some guys lost early and came back strong. We just need to get sharper, and we have a lot of weight classes up in the air right now.”

Dylan Peters, a redshirt freshman, earned the 125-pound title, earning his 10th and quickest pin of the season. He started out the day with a 19 second fall over Trevor Schultz of Minnesota State Mankato. He would go on to earn two more major decision wins and one decision to take first.

At 133 pounds, junior Levi Wolfensperger started the day with three pins, but fell in a 5-4 decision to take second.

Basil Minto had to fight off teammate Jared Bartel, but was unable to beat eventual champion #15 J’Den Cox of Missouri. He lost by a 4-0 decision to take second in the 197-pound weight class. Bartel went on to take fourth, earning three pins along the way.
Zach Witte earned two major decisions to place third in the 157-pound weight class.
“We have lots of room to grow,” said Schwab. “This week we will focus on school and get some time away. It gives us a chance to heal up and prep for Midlands.”

The Panthers have a week off competition during the student-athletes’ final exam week and return to action at the  51st Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Ill.

UNI’s next home wrestling dual is at 7 p.m. Jan. 11.
