The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the deputy who discharged his weapon during a high speed chase earlier this month. 

On Wednesday, November 22nd, Black Hawk County Sheriff Deputies assisted Waterloo Police in a vehicle pursuit that originated on the east side of Waterloo, went out into Black Hawk County, and then came back into the City of Waterloo. During this pursuit, Deputy Joe Schmidt, a 15 year veteran of the Sheriff's Office, discharged his duty weapon at the fleeing vehicle.

Waterloo Police continue to investigate this incident and upon conclusion of their investigation, it will be referred to the Black Hawk County Attorney for review. The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office also continues its own internal personnel review of the matter.
