2021 Class 5A Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament

Here are the 2021 Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament Class 5A pairings and results.

Class 5A quarterfinal games will be played on Monday, March 1. The winners advance to the state semifinals on Thursday, March 5. The 5A championship game is scheduled for Friday, March 5 at 7 PM.

The 5A field includes five of the eight qualifiers that battled for the championship in 2020: Cedar Falls, Iowa City High, Johnston, Southeast Polk, Waterloo West and Waukee. Other teams in the 2021 field are: Ankeny Centennial, Iowa City West and West Des Moines Dowling Catholic.

Both teams that battled for the 5A championship at Wells Fargo Arena in 2020 are in the field. Defending titlist Johnston is the No. 2 seed this year. Waukee, which finished second to the Dragons, is the No. 1.

Cedar Falls is making its 13th state tournament appearance. The Tigers won championships in 1991 and 2001. For Mississippi Conference and metro rival Waterloo West, this year's berth is the Wahawks' ninth overall. The Wahawks are seeking their first title, after finishing second in 1999 and 2002.

In 2020, West rallied from a 16-point deficit to defeat the Tigers 51-49 in the state quarterfinals. This year, they will meet in the semifinals if both teams advance on Monday.
