COVID-19: Black Hawk County Deaths Rise To Three
Black Hawk County now has three deaths linked to the coronavirus pandemic.
Local health officials reported two weekend deaths at a Monday afternoon press briefing. The victims were adults between the ages of 41 and 60, and 61 and 80., County Health Director Dr. Nafissa Cisse Egbuonye said.
According to Egbuonye, Black Hawk County has 356 cases of COVID-19. She said 151 of the cases – or 42 percent – are linked to an outbreak at the Tyson Fresh Meats in Waterloo. Egbuoyne declined to say if the weekend deaths were related to the Tyson outbreak.
The number of cases and deaths in Black Hawk County were more than what the state reported Monday morning. Local health officials said the difference was due to a delay in the state's reporting.
The number of cases in Black Hawk County have more than doubled since Thursday, when 150 were 150. Egbuonye said local health officials expect the number to continue rising.
Black Hawk County Board of Health will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning. The Board of Health plans to discuss the outbreak at Tyson.
