December Rollercoaster: Brutal Weather Returns to Iowa This Week
Well, it's almost officially winter. Yeah, that's right. Winter starts on December 21. Not "whenever" it gets cold.
We've had a rollercoaster late fall so far. Late November/early December saw warm temps. Cold temps. Some but very little snow.

Well, now we'll get a little of that again. But not for very long.
And maybe that's got you missing "real" winter?
It's Going to Get VERY Cold!
The average high in December in Eastern Iowa (using Cedar Rapids as the measuring stick) is actually right around freezing at 33 degrees. The low is well below freezing, 17 degrees.
As I write this it's nearly 50 degrees in much of Eastern Iowa, or will be very close. But by tomorrow, Tuesday, it will be right around average.
After that... "average" will sound tropical.

Our weather partners at KCRG are saying the temps will plummet by midweek to the mid-20s and upper teens for highs, with lows before factoring in the windchill hanging out below zero.
Do you despise cold temps? The good news is they won't last. Like, at all. KCRG has our 10-day forecast showing more 40s for highs, and lows nowhere near zero.
With Christmas inching closer and closer, the debate can turn to whether we will have a white Christmas. You can see what Old Farmer's Almanac says about that.
Be sure you bundle up the next couple of days, and make the most of the nearly 50-degree weather before you have to do just that!
