Blizzard Conditions Threaten Iowa As Spring Approaches

Our weather partners at KCRG-TV are forecasting ANOTHER possible chance of blizzard like conditions as we inch closer and closer to spring.

At the start of March, much of Iowa experienced some snow and wind gusts of 50 MPH which blizzard like conditions. These brutal weather conditions made travel nearly impossible.

Eastern Iowa Faces Red Flag Warning and Fire Danger

According to our weather partners at KCRG, on Monday (March 17th) Eastern Iowa is facing "critical fire danger due to a Red Flag Warning." 

These elevated fire risks will continue into Tuesday.

Weather Conditions Set to Change With Wind, Rain, and Snow

 

Then things are expected to take a major turn. On Wednesday (March 19th) evening, wind gusts of over 40 MPH will be accompanied by rain which will turn into snow.

In addition, some experts are predicting these conditions will cause "near-zero" visibility which will make travel a massive challenge on Wednesday, according to the Des Moines Register.

Snow Accumulation Expected Near Cedar Rapids and Dubuque

Meteorologist Joe Winters predicts that some snow accumulation is possible, especially in the "northwest of a Cedar Rapids to Dubuque line."

Winter Storm Watch Issued for Northern and Western Iowa

To make things even better, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued across northern and western Iowa.
