Before we get to the good news of this story, I do want to acknowledge what happened in Texas yesterday. There's a part of me that just feels strange to be discussing or talking about anything else.

Part of the reason I chose to write about this today was to remind you how many good people there are in the world. I just wanted to try and help remind you that there are so many amazing and wonderful things that happen on a daily basis. You're allowed to be sad and upset with what happened yesterday, I just hope this can be a positive distraction for you. Even if it's only for the 5 minutes it takes you to read this.

Team Biking to Remember put in some work since they started to bike coast to coast. Their journey began on March 12 as they traveled from San Diego, California, to St. Augustine, Florida. This ended up being a 3,000+ mile journey. This group has traveled further by bike than I've ever traveled for one trip by car. Kudos to them.

Team Biking to Remember biked from coast to coast to raise money for Alzheimer's awareness and have raised $32,000 so far, according to KCRG. They have a goal of reaching $50,000 and I'd be willing to bet they eventually get there.

Part of their travel took them through Tempe, El Paso, Austin, New Orleans, and Pensacola, before finally reaching their destination. If you want to help donate you can visit The Longest Day website

Jenny Lorenz is a member of the Team Biking to Remember and she told CBS2 Iowa

I don't know of anyone who has not been impacted by Alzheimer's in some way: A family member, a friend, or a friend of a friend. So, I would just encourage people to get involved and to make a difference. Because everybody has that opportunity whether it's big or small," Team Leader Jenny Lorenz said.

Alzheimer's hits very close to home for Lorenz. According to CBS2 Iowa, Lorenz rides for her mom, who is living with late-stage Alzheimer's. She also rides for her mother's sisters and brothers, who all passed away from Alzheimer's.

Hilarious Iowa DOT Signs

Anyone else share a sense of humor with a state's Department of Transportation? Just me? Well, every Monday the Iowa Department of Transportation puts up a sometimes hilarious, sometimes straightforward message on their road signs across the state. This is called "message Monday" and Iowa DOT tries to entertain and educate drivers through these signs. Here are just a few of our favorites.
