Cedar Falls voters have decided to part ways with Jim Brown, who has been in office since 2016.

Rob Green, a current city councilman, has defeated incumbent mayor Jim Brown. Green won the election yesterday evening picking up 4,623 votes, or 54.7 percent. Current mayor Jim Brown earned 3,482 votes, or 41.2 percent. Jim Skaine, a former UNI professor, received 328 votes, or 3.9 percent.

There were 21 write-in votes as well.

A hot topic in this mayoral race was Cedar Falls public safety officer program. Green supports reviewing the PSO program, which makes use of officers trained in both firefighting and police work. He wants to see the city council debate its future.
