Caitlin Clark Breaks the Drought: Fever Secure First Win Against LA Sparks

It feels like a spark has been reignited in Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever that we hope stays lit for the rest of the season.

2024 has been a wild year for the West Des Moines native.

During her final season playing for the University of Iowa, Caitlin Clark smashed through record after record. First, she became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division-I women’s basketball history, surpassing Kelsey Plum.

Not too long after that she became the ALL-TIME SCORING LEADING in all NCAA D1 basketball.

Not too shabby for a kid out of Iowa, right?

After leading her team to the finals in March Madness, Clark secured her spot in the WNBA. She was selected first overall by the Indiana Fever.

Since that exciting moment at the WNBA draft, the basketball powerhouse has had an uphill battle to climb.

The Indiana Fever had not won a single game this entire season. They even lost both of their preseason games.

It looked like it was going to be an incredibly tough season for Clark and the Fever...until Los Angeles.

On Friday, May 24th the Los Angeles Sparks hosted the 0-5 Indiana Fever at Crypto.com Arena.

It was the first time in well over a decade that a Sparks home game was completely sold out. Part of that had to do with the rookies that were taking center stage at that late night game.

Along with Clark, Cameron Brink (Stanford) was selected second overall in the draft, so fans were itching to see these two go head-to-head.

It looked like it would be another loss for the Fever during the first half. The team was down by eleven at the half.

However, it seemed like something hit these athletes because they bounced back with a...fever. Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark were making some big plays in the back of the game.

Clark even served up a near triple double during the matchup!

Clark missed her first six shots from the three-point line during this game, but it seemed like seven was her magic number.

Late in the second half, she hit LA with a deep three that had the crowd roaring.

Then, the nail in the coffin for the Sparks... With 41 seconds left in the game, and the Fever already leading by two points, Clark hit 'em with another three and helped ensure their lead.

 The Indiana Fever beat the Sparks 78-73.

We finally saw the light that Clark has been missing since leaving the Hawkeyes in this matchup.

After the game, Clark celebrated the win with her teammates and fans...as well as a surprising A-lister from her home state.

Iowa's sweetheart and actor Ashton Kutcher. The two embraced after the game, and honestly, I couldn't tell who was more excited to see the other.
