Late last year, the Dubuque Airport officials announced that they would be adding a nonstop flight to Orlando, Florida in 2023. They are scheduled for twice a week. The airport partnered with Avelo Airlines for this new nonstop service.

One-way fares from Dubuque to Orlando International Airport would apparently start at $59.

Seems to good to be true, right?

Well, it just might've been!

On January 7th, 2023 officials from the Dubuque Regional Airport announced that they were unable to get the required TSA approval of its airport security plan in time for the inaugural DBQ to Orlando flights.

The initial flight scheduled for Wednesday, January 11th was cancelled a week ahead of time. Passengers who were meant to be on these first few flights were compensated for their troubles according to Avelo Airlines officials.

“The security of our customers, employees and aviation system remains our top priority. Despite our best efforts to secure approvals for our DBQ AirportSecurity Program, additional time is needed," said DBQ Airport Director Todd Dalsing.

"We are working with TSA to resolve this as quickly as possible. This delay was not Avelo's fault, and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this situation has created for Avelo's Customers," Dalsing confirms.

After taking a moment to regroup, there is now officially a plan in motion for the passengers who booked these specific flights for the time being.

As of Saturday, January 14th, Avelo Airlines will be relocating these Dubuque flights to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. This is a temporary fix until the airport can get the necessary certification from the TSA.

Airline officials confirmed that they will be offering passengers who booked these flights a $100 travel credit on future flights and the opportunity to reschedule their flights at no extra cost.
