A Recap Of 2022 For This New Iowan
For once, in this article about my life, I'm not a moron! I wanted to share with you a little bit of my 2022 as it has been one of the biggest life-changing years I've ever had.
2022 has been a pretty wild year for this brand-new Iowan. Other than when I first moved out of my parent's house to start my career, this has probably been a year where I made the biggest changes to my life. Looking back on the early parts of 2022 is insane to think about.
The year 2022 started with my fiance Kori and I moving out of this little apartment in Winona, Minnesota, to start our new journey in Iowa together.
I'll always remember 2022 as the year we bought our first house. One of the most terrifying and fulfilling moments of our entire lives. This goes without saying but did you know houses cost a boatload of money? What an experience that was.
Once you sign your name on all of those papers, there's no more landlord to help you out with problems anymore. My first goal when we bought the house was to just make sure to not lose the thing. For the love of god, Gabe, just keep us in the house. So far so good.
We decided it was time for both of us to make a change in our jobs for multiple reasons. Mostly we just wanted to try and keep advancing in our lives professionally and financially. We both believed taking our new jobs was the best way to do that and so far, we've been proven correct. We moved further away from our friends and family but it's a decision we both agree that has been for the best.
Once Kori was settled in with her new job, she decided to go back to school and is now only 3 semesters away from getting her master's degree in social work and I couldn't be more proud of her. At times, finishing school has been a challenge for her to stick with as all of her classes are done online.
That might not seem like much but it can be really hard to stay motivated when 100% of your schooling is done on a laptop. Either way, put a +1 in the win column for Kori for sticking with it.
As for me, I've continued to try and take over radio and internet content dominance. Here's where I'd insert an eye-roll emoji if I could, followed by a laughing face emoji. Most of the time I just fall flat on my face in my career but it's led to a lot of fun stories I've been able to share with you. I hope I can continue doing that for as long as this place will let me.
We've been lucky to make some new lifelong friends since moving to Iowa and have been treated with nothing but kindness since being here. I hope all of those things continue in the new year.
One thing I love about this picture is the gentleman who has his arms around me and Kori...none of us in this picture have a clue who this dude is. Whoever this guy is, I love him. That was an awesome moment.
I raise a glass (let's be real, it's a can of Busch Light) to you. I hope you have the best 2023 imaginable. It will come with struggles and tough times but it's important to remember that tough times don't last, tough people, do.
Take that new job, and make the big leap. Try doing something that scares you, or get back to school and finish that degree. Whatever it is, don't be afraid to fail. I've got so good at failing, I can't even tell when it happens anymore. If you aren't failing, you aren't trying new things. Happy new year to you and I wish you nothing but the best.
As I'm writing this I realize I'm getting married in 2023... Yikes!
