The owner of both of Oelwein's golf courses, is seeking to turn one of the facilities into an upscale housing development.

Chris Black, doing business as Lizzy Rose LLC, owns the Edgewater Golf Course and Hickory Grove Golf Course. Now, Black is looking to change Edgewater into a housing development, but keep Hickory Grove as-is.

Black was granted a request from the Fayette County Board of Supervisors to rezone 32 acres of a 69 acre parcel, from conservation floodplain zoning, to suburban residential, to develop the land into 17 housing lots.

Edgewater sits just outside the Oelwein city limits, but close enough that the city would have to approve a final platting. A strip of land that borders Lake Oelwein would be left in the floodplain.

Black noted that keeping the golf course as-is was not financially feasible anymore, and that more developments are needed for high-end, upscale housing.
